
Samtel is an almost five-decade old Group with a presence in various domains including Defence &
Avionics, Real Estate and Education. The Group has a well-established history of being India's largest
integrated manufacturer of a wide range of displays for consumer electronics, television, industrial,
medical and professional applications, and recently - avionics.
Historically, Samtel has been a global leader and the largest manufacturer of Television picture tubes,
with 70% of Indian market. The first plant for the B&W picture tube was set up in 1973 in Ghaziabad, in
the National Capital Region of Delhi. It was India's first privately owned Black and White picture tube
plant.
The Color TV picture tube manufacturing plant was established in Ghaziabad in 1987 in technical
collaboration with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation of Japan. Subsequently, seven plants with integrated
manufacturing of tubes, electron guns & deflection yokes were set up. These picture tubes were
supplied to all the major local television manufacturers such as LG, Samsung, BPL, Onida, Videocon etc.
and to others overseas.
A glass manufacturing plant was also set up in Kota (Rajasthan) in a JV with Corning Inc., USA.
Samtel had the reputation of being India's largest integrated manufacturer of a wide range of displays with a strength of 6000 people in nine factories pan-India and an annual turnover of Rs 12 billion (USD 300M).
Milestones & Recognitions
Teletube Electronics Limited - first B&W picture tube manufacturing plant set up.
Samtel India Limited set up in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan to manufacture B&W picture tubes in different sizes.
Samtel Color Limited started in technical collaboration with Mitsubishi Electric, Japan to manufacture color picture tubes from its plant in Ghaziabad.
Plant for manufacturing glass for picture tubes set up at Kota through a JV between Corning, USA and Samtel.
Strategic acquisition of a plant of Thales France in Germany.
